Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea: Ditmarschen 1

Destination: Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea: southern part (Dieksander Koog, Meldorfer Speicherkoog, National Park information centre “Wattwurm”, Seehundstation Friedrichskoog).

Number of participants: 50.

Short description: The Wadden Sea National Park of Schleswig-Holstein encompasses a huge area of intertidal mud flats with a rich food supply for migratory and breeding waterbirds, especially waders. The excursion will lead to a typical part of the mainland coast including mud flats, salt marshes, sea wall and an embanked area, parts of which are now a bird sanctuary with breeding and staging waterbirds. In August there will be large numbers of migratory waders on stopover. We will start early to see birds on roosts during the morning high tide. We will also visit the National Park information centre “Wattwurm” and an information centre where Harbour Seals are kept and reared.

Expected species (selection): Oystercatcher, Dunlin, Curlew Sandpiper, Curlew, Redshank and other waders, various ducks, gulls and other waterbird species.

Travel information: Bus 2+2 hours.
Food: The fee includes one meal (lunch box).
Departure: 06:30 a.m. CCH Hamburg.
Return: 07:00 p.m. CCH Hamburg.
Clothing: Depending on weather, protective clothing against wind and rain will be necessary.
Restrictions for disabled people: Participation possible for disabled people, although excursion will include short walks.
