Instructions for Poster presentations

*** There will be prizes for the 3 best posters, as voted on by delegates at the meeting. ***

Size and orientation:

A0 portrait (vertical) (ca. 84 cm width x 120 cm height). Posters in landscape orientation (horizontal) will NOT be accepted.

Materials to attach your poster to the poster boards will be provided at the congress center.

Organization:

Poster set up will occur on Sunday 13 Aug. All posters will be on display during the entire meeting. Posters will be presented on 14, 15, 16 and 18 Aug from 14:30-16:30. Refreshments will be served in the poster area and no other sessions of the conference will be scheduled during this time. Each poster will be assigned a number and posters will be arranged by subject. To facilitate discussion among people interested in the same subject area, odd numbered posters within a subject area will be presented one day, and even the next. Poster presenters MUST be at their posters during their scheduled poster session time. You will receive an email prior to the congress telling you when your poster will be presented.

Tips for effective poster presentation:

  1. Keep text brief. Report only the major points for each section of the poster (introduction, study site, methods, results, discussion, implications).
  2. Keep figures and tables simple. Present only one idea per figure or table.
  3. Use large font size. Text and figures should be readable to someone standing at a distance of 1.5m.
  4. Use simple typeface and use bold type for headings.
  5. Don’t crowd information onto the poster. Make 2 or 3 main points.
  6. Use a simple colour scheme that does not detract from the information being presented.
  7. Include a recent photo of yourself in the upper right hand corner so that people can find you for discussion later.
